Travel: St. Andrews by the Sea

Dear Readers,

I recently had a half day of work so a couple of friends and I decided to take off to St.Andrews. St. Andrew by the Sea is this gorgeous little ocean town a little over an hour away from where I live. It is a very quaint sea side town with beautiful old homes, lovely restaurants, you can go whale watching, visit the Huntsman’s Aquarium, the Kingsbrae Gardens or stay at the elegant Algonquin Hotel. It was even voted American’s favourite place in Canada this year! I have always loved going there since I was a little child, so I thought I would share a few of my favourite spots in St. Andrews.

Huntsman’s Aquarium: The Aquarium in St. Andrews is this little aquarium that has tons of fish tanks on display, two harbour seals, a beautiful view of the ocean, and two awesome touch tanks. The touch tank was always my favourite part as a kid, it is filled with starfish, crabs, sea cucumbers, fish, and all sorts of other ocean critters.

The Block House. I packed a picnic for everyone and we went down to the Block House, an old historic fort, to sit by the ocean to have our picnic. The view is simply lovely from the Block House and people were out kayaking and paddle boarding!

Kingsbrae Gardens. The Kingsbrae Gardens are so beautiful. Unfortunately though on this visit I was under the impression that the gardens were open until 8pm in July & August, but I was mistaken and they are only open until 6pm… and we arrived at 6:07pm… so we did not get to visit this gardens this trip, but I did include so pictures from inside the gardens on a previous visit in 2015. The gardens are enormous occupying 27 acres! So they are definitely a must see!!

The Warf. Taking a stroll down the warf is a must, its a spectacular view of the harbour and of the main strip of St. Andrews. Plus, if you are interested in Whale Watching there are numerous companies that can take you out on different types of boating adventures to see the whales. In the Bay of Fundy you are most likely going to see Humpbacks, Minkes, and Harbour Porpoises!

After we took a stroll down the warf we went to The Gables for a drink. They have a beautiful patio that sits on the water so I definitely recommend it, and lots of sea food of course!! St. Andrews has lots of great little cafes and restaurants, two of my favourites are Honey Dukes and The Niger Reef plus you can always take a trip to Kandy Land for dessert!

So after mentioning a few of my favourite places in St. Andrews I definitely recommend that you check it out if you are ever in New Brunswick. It is definitely worth spending at least one day there!!
