Dear Readers,
A few weeks ago I attended a Gallery Opening or “Party” at Jones Gallery in Uptown Saint John. First of all what are my favourite things in life: art, fashion, and parties. SO this Gallery Night was right up my alley, I got to look at beautiful art, dress up, and attend a great event! Jones Gallery Night [TWO] was a Derby Themed event to go along side Jared Peter’s Horsemanship exhibit.
For those of you who are not familiar with Jones Gallery:
“Jones Gallery is a contemporary art gallery in Saint John, NB. Founded by sibling duo Caleb and Sarah Jones, Jones Gallery’s programming focuses on painting, sculpture and installation-based work by contemporary Atlantic Canadian artists.”
The gallery is located at 1 Charlotte Street, on the corner of Union Street.
To go along with the theme of the art exhibit, the description of the event was to “dress for the derby and bring your picnic blanket.” I am sure many of you remember how I spent my birthday last year at the Horse Races in Scotland, so I was SO excited to bring out my pink fascinator again!!!
I love how Jones Gallery have decided to host parties instead of traditional gallery openings. There is just such a fun vibe to their gallery openings! For this event they even brought in GRASS to have picnic blankets on. How cool and fun is that?!!! Naturally, I spent a good portion of the evening lounging on the grass 😜
I have said this various times before, but since moving home I have been SO impressed with the art scene in Saint John. For being a little city there is always something going on, and even more incredible events will be coming this summer!
To add to the Derby theme, they served Mint Juleps the official drink of the Kentucky Derby throughout the evening as well. Typically, a mint julep consist of: mint leaf, bourbon, simple syrup, and crushed ice.
After attending this event, my best friend Chrissy wrote a piece about Horsemanship which was published recently in Canadian Art which you should all definitely check out!
Jones Gallery is located at 1 Charlotte Street in Uptown Saint John, make sure you stop by and check out the gallery!! Currently on display is Jimmy Sloan: Picnic! I was unable to make it to the last event, however I am sure I will be in attendance for the next Gallery Night. If Gallery Night’s aren’t your thing, they also have Art History talks during the week. Subscribe to their e-mail or follow them on Facebook and Instagram for more updates on their events!
