Dear Readers,
A few weeks ago I got to attend another fantastic event in Saint John, The Happy Hour Club. This group popped up on my Instagram feed back in October and I was instantly intrigued, with the title “Happy Hour Club.” Without knowing anything about the group or event I instantly grabbed two tickets for my friend Chrissy and I, and I am so glad I did!
So, what is the Happy Hour Club?
“Each Happy Hour Club event is intended to have new elements that the events before it have not had. We strive to showcase as many venues, drinks, food options, photographers, special guests, and companies as possible. We have structured our event this way to create a positive impact on each local community we’re in and to expose our network to all of the fantastic aspects that each city has to offer. Our Happy Hour Club events are hosted and managed by Courtney Larkin, our founder, who is also the creator of the concept for the event. She brings over 11 years of extensive event planning experience ranging from large corporate events for Dalhousie University and United Way Halifax, to countless smaller intimate events for organizations and individuals. Courtney loves hosting events that being together people and help them make meaningful connections. All of our events are supported by a fantastic team of volunteers that help with everything from on-site registration to our very popular ‘Social Connectors’. Together, our team works diligently on every aspect of each event to ensure we are well prepared for another success event. We’ve seen how successful our events have been in Fredericton, and now we want to bring them to cities across New Brunswick!”
So essentially, The Happy Hour Club, is an all female networking event for women to meet other women and to learn about all the fantastic things women are doing in Saint John.
The first HHC Saint John event took place at Gahan House: Port City on Prince William Street in uptown Saint John. It was a sold out event with 135 women there, even more impressive it was announced that the event was sold out on October 17th and the event took place November 7th!
At the event drinks and food were provided! Each guest had two complimentary drinks: 1) Coast Line HHC cider 2) either a Raspberry Sour or a Beach Chair lager!
Gahan also catered to the event, providing so many yummy snacks throughout the evening.
One of the neat things they did was have a selection of seven Saint John women as the “HHC Faces November 2019.” As the event approached there was a feature on each woman posted through the social media pages to learn about them and what they do in the community. It was so neat to partake in a event by women for women, and to hear about all the incredible things different women in Saint John were doing. The HHC Faces were a great way to start hearing about different projects and endeavours local women are involved with.
I have said this many times before, but I think Saint John is such a fantastic little city. There is always something going on and there are so many ways to get involved with the community, and new events are always popping up. This event was a great example of that. I usually run more in the “arts” crowd for events going on, so this event was a great opportunity to meet women in all different fields, from wellness to business.
Thanks to Courtney Larkin and the rest of the Happy Hour Club for organizing such a great event. It was so neat to meet so many women who are all doing fantastic things in the Saint John area. One of the aspects I liked the most was that I only knew a few people. With Saint John being such a little city I often feel like I already know everybody, but this event proved there are still loads of interesting people to meet in our little community. Cheers to that Saint John!
