Dear Readers,
First of all, Happy belated Father’s day to all the wonderful Dads out there including my incredible Dad, Michael! I was so lucky this year to be home for father’s day. My parents along with our close family friends decided last year to start a new father’s day tradition of going to Giermindls Old Bavarian Restaurant. This was actually my first time ever going to Giermindls, however I have been dying to go for a couple of years since I saw it featured on You Gotta Eat Here, and trust me, this restaurant did not disapoint.
The restaurant was located outside of Sussex on the Knighthill Road. It was just shy of an hour for us to get there (we arrived a little early and drove up to Corn Hill Nursery too). It makes it a little more fun to have to go on an adventure to get to a restaurant!
Taken from their website: “Giermindl’s Old Bavarian Restaurant features
authentic German cuisine served in a fun traditional Bavarian setting. All the meat dishes are produced and processed right here on our Giermindl Farm and government inspected abattoir – Adolph’s Butcher Shop“
To start off we all ordered an Erdinger “Weissbier” dark beer. I’m such a dark beer fan so this was a great start to our evening! The beer initally felt a little overwhelming with all the foam but it was delicious.
I was so overwhelemed with what to order because it all looked SO good, and it was my first time there so of course it make it even more challenging to decide. To start we ordered the Sausage Platter and the Cream of Celery Soup. Then for my main I ordered the Jagar Schnitzel, which was a breaded pork cutlet with spicy sauce of green peppers, tomatoes, onions and mushrooms. My Mom and Liam both ordered the same thing too, as Mom accidently referred to it as the Mick Jaggar Schnitzel 😂
Our meal was absolutely delicious, I loved everything! The meal was so large I only made it through half of it, so I was lucky enough to have it again today for lunch. Besides the meal being delicious that whole experience of the restaurant was fantastic, I honestly felt like I was back in Europe eating at a family restaurant.
If you are up for a different dinner experience than was Saint John typically has to offer I 10/10 recommend a trip up to Knightsville. The restaurant is open Friday, Saturday and Sunday noon until 10pm. Make sure you make a reservation in advance though!!! I am already looking at going again, maybe even for Oktoberfest!!!
